Valencia, Revisited (Jan 5, 2025)

Valencia is the third largest city in Spain (after Madrid and Barcelona) and we didn't get a chance to see everything on our 2017 trip, so we were anxious to explore it again and see things that we missed before.  We got here just before Epiphany--they call it Three Kings' Day here--and it's a pretty big deal.  The Christmas lights are all still up, people were buying gifts, and there was a Three Kings parade (which I unfortunately didn't see because the parade route was packed and I'm short).

Fountain in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.  The second building from the left (the first wholly pictured one) is where we stayed on our first trip here.

Merry-go-round in the square (salida means exit, for those who are wondering).

Inside the station.  That's all mosaic tile on the ceiling, walls, and columns--which was new since our last visit here.

Automated ticket machines--though your focus should be on the ceiling.

Valencia bull fighting ring (Plaza del Toros), though they have all kinds of events here.

Ornate gate that leads to a cafe I will visit in the future.

Fe ensuring that one of the columns in the Jardines del Antiguo Hospital doesn't fall over.

After dinner, we went back out to see the lights, which has been a theme so far on the trip.

One more view of the square, looking at City Hall.

We called it a night and headed back to our apartment.  My iPhone said I walked 4.75 miles today, which means I'm getting more cardio exercise than I expected.  Maybe I'll beat that, since we plan on exploring again tomorow.

Final Thoughts

It was our first time trying slow travel, and I'd say it was a success.  We learned from our mistakes--mostly scheduling and budgeting--...
