Rome wasn't Toured in a Day (Jan 26, 2025)

Still catching up--starting with our Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Tour.  The tickets for this were 18 EUR apiece (18.65 USD) but we saw three sights and I thought it was well worth it.

The Colosseum was first:

The classic view that everyone knows.

Entry into the Colosseum

Colosseum Cross, placed there in 2000

Interior View

Fe and I inside

View of the Church of San Bonaventura from the Colosseum

The Temple of Venus and Rome as seen from the Colosseum

Fe and the lesser-known side of the Colosseum

Our tour was scheduled at 11:30 am and spent a while in this fascinating place (could've spent more if I'd read all the displays).  We got in a little early but there were still a lot of people in the place and a bit of jostling for photo spots.  I'm glad we were here in off-season--I can only imagine what it would be like in the summer months.  Maybe I don't want to imagine.

Next on the tour was the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.  Since we bought the tickets online a couple of days earlier, we could skip the long line to buy them--another plus.

Fe and the Arch of Titus

Another view, Santa Francesca Church to the right

View of the Roman Forum

Another view, centered on the Temple of Antonius and Faustina

Palatine Hill

This place was huge and we spent most of the day here, but on our way out, I managed to get down into the forum for a few more pics:

Temple of Divine Romulus

There was a lot of walking today (about 7 mi) and we were exhausted, so we got something to eat and then back to the apartment.  Stay tuned--tomorrow we visit a new country!

Final Thoughts

It was our first time trying slow travel, and I'd say it was a success.  We learned from our mistakes--mostly scheduling and budgeting--...
