We had bought train tickets earlier in the week from Tomar to Braga. It involved three trains with two transfers and they cost about $45 for both of us. A higher cost than I'm used to, but it's still cheaper than renting a car, filling it with gas, and paying to park.
The first leg from Tomar to Encontramento (which means junction) was fine. It took about half an hour on the regional train.
Econtramento Station
There was a train museum here, but we didn't have time to visit. I did get some pictures from the outside. This is a roundhouse with older locomotives.
They had a Christmas tree made of rail ties.
Our train from Econtramento to Porto-Companhã was a few minutes late and had a few stops so we missed the 3 pm connection to Braga. Even if the train had been on time, I think the connection would've been tight anyway. There was another one at 3:50, so we got on that one and we finally got into our apartment around 5:30--or maybe a little later since we had some trouble finding the place.
But we were pleased when we got in:
Living room
Kitchen and dining area
Bedroom
We did take an Uber from the train station to the apartment and saw a lot of the Christmas lights in town. Can't wait to explore.
