Beach Day (Jan 11, 2025)

Valencia is a town on Spain's eastern coast with the Mediterranean.  In 2017, we never got to see the beach due to a lack of time, so we decided to see what was there this time.  Since we don't have a rental car the easiest beach to get to was Malvarossa Beach, about 6 or 7 km (4 or 5 mi), by subway and tram.  It was also a chance to visit a beach in mid-January which I'm still wrapping my head around.

The beach couple.  We had jackets since it was around 17 C (63 F) and breezy.

These buildings lined the promenade.  They were mostly restaurants.

I certainly understand the appeal of beaches--the sound of the surf, seaside views, the feel of sand in your toes...I do get the urge to visit one every so often.  This one was very nice and if it had been a bit warner we may have stayed longer, but my trouble is that I quickly get bored with it.  I know, I know most of you are saying, "What?!?", and you're right--I think the fault lies with me and I just need to relax and enjoy the moment.  But we pretty much saw what there was to see and both of us didn't feel like walking up the promenade that had no end in sight.  Plus, this part of town didn't have much open--and compared to where we are staying, it seemed a little depressed.  So went back to the tram station and rode back to the metro transfer point where we had lunch at a cafe nearby.

Cappuccino and a burek (Fe's lunch)

That was it for today.  I've said this on other trip blogs, but a big benefit of riding public transit is that we see parts of the city we'd otherwise miss.  Away from the touristy areas you can really get a feel for how people live--and the prices are a bit cheaper, ha ha.

Final Thoughts

It was our first time trying slow travel, and I'd say it was a success.  We learned from our mistakes--mostly scheduling and budgeting--...
