It was time to leave Bari for our next stay, Salerno. It's a city of over 128,000 on the opposite side of the peninsula on the Mediterranean--the Tyrrhenian Sea to be specific. Because the center of Italy of is somewhat mountainous, the best way to get there was by bus--a train would have taken a long time. The bus (Flixbus) left in the afternoon and it still took a while, but I thought seeing the countryside and how Italian highways and signage were laid out was interesting (35 years with PennDOT leaves it's mark). We transferred to another bus at Naples, which was delayed by rainy weather and heavy traffic.
The Salerno bus stop was right by the water, but it was night when we arrived and our accommodation was at least a couple of miles away. We were tired and I was a little confused as to where the local bus stop was so we walked around a bit looking for it--turns out it was right next to where we were dropped off! I thought we could buy a ticket on the bus, but no. We must have been a pitiful sight because the driver let us ride for free and even told us when our stop was coming up. I tried to leave some money, but he wouldn't take it.
Anyway, we made it to our place: a little studio apartment a couple of miles east of the city center. Some photos:
